Dutch Homes Deck Out for the Holidays

Christmas is a wonderful time of year to display your creative side and get festive by decorating your house. But many towns and cities around the world don’t have sprawling front lawns to decorate, including many homes in the Netherlands. I jumped on the bike and snapped several festive facades to explain to you the way many sailors in my hometown are decorating for the holiday season.

The Dutch town of Delft is blessed with many things: charm, personality and centuries-old homes. However, most city dwellings in this part of the planet are not blessed with front porches. But that will not stop the residents from becoming festive.

It would not be Christmas without a two or 2. Whenever your front outdoor area is limited, it is still possible to show off your festive side with a pretty wreath. This one has charm, with a center star.

Sliced orange bits make for an intriguing addition to the classic wreath while adding a pop of citrus color to brighten dull wintry days.

The owners of the light yellow house chose an embellished silver wreath to offset their cobalt blue front door. They continued the motif inside by adding silver ornaments on the inside in their front window.

This brick facade also went for silver, together with hanging star pendants along with a modern silver plant on the windowsill.

The residents of these two homes are keeping their holiday decor to a minimum, with understated wreaths to greet visitors and passersby.

White ornaments and trimmings adorn the front window of the downtown dwelling.

I like to think these homeowners huddle together on their pretty front seat to enjoy their handiwork, mugs of hot chocolate in hand.

If you reside to the first floor above ground level, as these homeowners do, then you’re likely to have limited choices for decorating your home’s exterior. Maybe a few understated celebrity decorations on one of the windows are all that’s needed.

All these homeowners made the most of their little front window by dressing on from top to toe into quirky silver decorations. A suspended branch embellished with white pom-poms and birds combines a miniature Christmas tree and snowmen for a cheerful screen.
