How to Set Yard Marble Chips

Marble is many different colors, but marble chips are most frequently white and comprise a glimmering surface which reflects heat and light. Marble chips work best when used in paths and patios as a substitute for gravel. Although gravel frequently can be used as inorganic mulch around plants, marble chip mulch’s reflected sunlight may be too intense for plants within full-sun locations. Further, marble is an alkaline stone, and so marble chip mulch can cause an imbalance in soil’s pH level, which may negatively impact acid-loving plants. A company base and edging work nicely to keep marble chips set up in a lawn.

Lay out the design for a marble chip route, patio or flowerbed with flexible lawn hoses, which allow you to make a curved design easily. Measuring distances in many areas of the design ensures equal spaces.

Spray the ground with line-marking spray paint along the lawn hoses. Remove the seams in the region.

Cut across the painted lines with a half-moon edger to a thickness of about 6 inches. Remove grass and soil in the area using a scoop or flat shovel.

Rake the region with a bow rake to even out the ground. Pack the soil with a hand tamper.

Spread a two- to 3-inch deep layer of rock dust above the compacted soil. Spray the stone dust in your garden hose to moisten it and also to decrease the total amount of dust from the atmosphere. Pack the damp stone dust into place with the hand tamper to fill out the website’s base layer.

Cover the compacted stone dust with landscaping fabric cut to match the website. Although landscaping fabric suppresses weed growth, its main advantage in this project is that it prevents rock dust from mixing with the marble chips layer. Push 6-inch tall metal stakes through the landscaping fabric and to the stone dust base to pin the cloth in place.

Line the edges of the path, patio or flowerbed with landscape edging. Edging options include bricks or boards for straight edges and polyvinyl edging or natural stones for curved edges.

Fill the space with a 3-inch heavy layer of marble chips, or employ marble chips to about 1/2 inch in the edging fabric’s shirt. The thickness is going to keep the marble chips included within the edging. Rake the region with the bow rake to spread the marble chips evenly.
